I attended my first birth when I was 18. I was hooked from that day on. I started attending the births of close friends. I also was birth support for two in patient psychiatric patients while working as a psychiatric technician.
I gave birth to my first daughter, in hospital, in August of 1997. It was not a good experience, overall. And my sweet baby was not happy for months from birth trauma.
I found support in La Leche League and became an accredited leader in 1999.
My second birth was a carefully planned home birth with midwives, apprentices and a doula. The experience was vastly different with the calm and beauty of my own environment. Such an empowering experience! Best thing Ive ever done.
After several years volunteering as a leader, I decided my true calling was in supporting birthing persons to have their own best birth.
I became a birth and postpartum doula in 2004. I attended The Doula School, owned and taught by Treesa Mclean, a well respected Bay Area midwife. After completing my certification I began working right away, with constant confirmation that this is my life’s purpose. Every parent, every baby, every postpartum period moves me as deep connections are formed in this new family. I am honored to support parents through these life altering events.
I’ve attended more than 50 births and I’ve supported 60+ postpartum families.
I look forward to many more birth and postpartum journeys. Maybe you will be that family
Peace, love and happy parenting!
