A little bit about me...I have three children of my own. I had my first child when I was 20. I was young and did not know about the options I had for labor and delivery. I had never never heard of a midwife, doula, skin to skin contact, delayed cord clamping, or any of the other options available to women. I thought I had to do anything and everything the doctor chose to do, even without consent. I was traumatized by this birth and was left with no trust in myself or my body.
3 years later when I was pregnant with my second baby, I started researching and reading everything I could about childbirth and options available. I learned that I had a choice and a say in what I wanted my experience to be like. I learned about informed consent. I learned that it was not me or my body that caused the traumatic birth of my first child, but it was from lack of knowledge. The more I read the more I fell in love with pregnancy and childbirth and all that it encompassed. I had amazing births with my second and third children. I started researching on how to become a midwife which lead me to becoming a doula.
My goals as a doula are to:
- Empower women to believe in themselves.
- Inspire women to learn and listen to their body.
- Educate women on options, by providing evidence based research on a multitude of topics so they can make informed decisions.
I assist women in helping to create a birth plan, position changes, gentle touch, answering questions, and encouragement during labor and delivery. As well as unyielding unbiased support throughout pregnancy, labor, delivery, and post postpartum.
The honor and privilege to work with such an amazing organ as the placenta, is a blessing for me. To look at a placenta and know that it sustained a child's life for many months is just astonishing.
I am currently working on my midwifery education and plan on becoming a midwife. I hope to be able to assist women in their birth journey.
